Sovereign power belongs to the people, and leaders are accountable to you. (Article 1)

Ways to take part

• Public participation — give your views when Parliament or your county assembly is making important decisions. (Article 196)
• Petitions — present a petition to Parliament or your county assembly about an issue that concerns you.
• Access to information — ask the government for information you need. (Article 35)
• Your representatives — contact your MP, Senator, Governor or MCA directly.
• Elections — vote out leaders who do not perform.

Accountability is not rude

Asking questions, demanding answers and taking part in decisions is your right and your duty as a citizen. It is how a democracy stays healthy.
